| The price of fuel is a
big factor in the cost of moving shipments. When fuel prices
are high, we apply a fuel surcharge, a percent of the net
charges, to the bill. When fuel prices are low, we reduce
the net charges by a specified percent.
Monthly Fuel Surcharge Procedure
How to get info needed to get fuel surcharge information
for carriers.
1. Go to www.eia.doe.gov
2. Look to the left of page and click on Petroleum
3. Under reports, click on Weekly Petroleum Status
Report
4. Go to report #17, US Retail Motor Gasoline
and On-Highway Diesel Fuel Prices, 2004 to
Present, and click on PDF file.
5. Print report #17.
6. Highlight 2 lines. Look under the appropriate
year and highlight under Motor Gasoline,
Regular and 2nd is On-Highway Diesel Fuel
7. Look under previous month and that is
the correct price to use.
(example: use October for the November
billing period)
8. Use the Fuel Surcharge Table (see below)
for both gas and diesel and apply the correct
percentage amount for each product by taking the monthly price
and applying it into the proper range.
9. Each January 1st the table will be reset for each fuel
type using the average cost for the
previous 2 years. This will become the base line for the next
year.

Gasoline Average of $2.27 (2005) + $2.60 (2006)= $2.44
Diesel Average of $2.40 (2005) + $2.71 (2006)= $2.56
